I have never enjoyed journaling. Almost everyone I know loves it. My best friends and my boyfriend constantly are telling me how relaxing and decompressing it is, but for me, it was always like shouting into the abyss. And then I started blogging.
For some reason, writing for a specific audience helped me to put my thoughts onto virtual paper. And since then, I haven’t stopped writing. Of course I (try) to keep up with this blog, but I’ve gotten in the habit of keeping 3 other journals as well.
- The Food Journal
If you’ve read my previous posts about my body/eating habits, you know that I definitely am more than a little obsessed with healthy eating. And the thing that keeps my mind at bay is writing down everything that I eat every single day, that way when I’m feeling bad about eating those swedish fish, I can look back and remind myself that it’s okay because I eat mostly veggies during the day!
- What Went Well
This one is a project that my mom suggested I start. The idea is that you write down 3 things that went well during the day and then write down why they occurred. I originally agreed to do it for two weeks, but I’ve kept it up for about 6 months now! I just love being able to reflect on my day on a very small, but meaningful, scale.
- Dear Alexander…
Okay, this one is cheesy, so bear with me. One of the things Alex gave me for my birthday last year was a little red, moleskin journal. I wasn’t sure what to write in it, but being in a long distance relationship, I knew there were always little things I wished I could tell Alex. I started writing him little notes in the journal throughout the day. This soon turned into me writing him a short letter nightly. It’s usually about my own day, but it’s nice to be able to write to him! Who knows how this will change when we’re living in the same place?
So there you have it! My 3 daily journals-for-a-non-journaler! Try them out and let me know what you think, or tell me if have other daily journals you love. And who knows, maybe someday they’ll lead to a blog!
