This past weekend, I drove an hour to Huntington Beach for the annual SoCal Corgi Beach Day and it was everything I have ever dreamed of and more.
Something that’s not super well known about me is that I am absolutely obsessed with welsh corgis. When I was little, I learned everything possible about the breed from the variations in color, to the two types (Pembroke and Cardigan), to their eating habits, to what they were originally bred to do (herd animals). I even had two corgi stuffed animals, not to mention the two real corgis that my family adopted. So it’s safe to say that a beach day for my all-time favorite dog was a must-attend for me.
I was impressed by how well organized the event was, with a 10am-3pm schedule of programming, including a corgi costume contest. There were food trucks for both humans and dogs and various vendors selling dog treats, clothes, and items to support various organizations. There was also a Queen’s Best Stumpy Dog Rescue tent and I almost adopted a two-legged corgi named Panda! (I still might! Don’t tell Alex!)
My roommate, Elizabeth (who took all of the pictures in this post), and I got to pet and take pictures with so many corgis. I was in heaven.
I cannot rave enough about this past weekend. It was a dream come true. If you’re in SoCal, go. Go go go. It’s just as good as the buzzfeed listicle made it out to be.
